Beautiful silver screen weddings to take inspiration from

When we’re looking for ideas for our wedding day, we take inspiration from absolutely anywhere. A great place to start, though, is in the movies. After all, if it’s good enough to be in a Hollywood hit, it’s obviously going to be amazing! From lavish and glamorous affairs in Manhattan to pretty and personal ceremonies in the garden of a childhood home, something is sure to spark your interest in this cluster of incredible movie weddings…

Love Actually

Love-Actually

Perhaps the most memorable part of one of our very favourite Christmas films, Love Actually, is the wedding between Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s characters. It’s a beautiful, traditional ceremony with the twist of a pop-up serenade. The Beatles’ classic “All You Need Is Love” performed by family and friends leaves everyone with a smile on their face. It’s the little things!

Sex and the City

If you’re wanting something over the top and classy as hell, look no further than (what should have been) Carrie Bradshaw’s perfect marriage to Big. It’s fancy and luxurious, so you’ll need quite a budget to obtain a wedding like it, but if you can, you’re a lucky couple indeed! It may not have had a happy ending, but the styling is definitely something to admire and – spoiler alert – Carrie and Big got their perfect, and much more simple, wedding in the end.

Sex and the City 2

We couldn’t include one without the other! Just as lavish as Carrie’s first attempt down the aisle, her best friend Stanford and his partner Anthony’s wedding is ridiculously flamboyant but ultimately fabulous. I mean, they even have swans! It’s not for everyone, but a wedding with this much sass is worth watching either way.

Wedding Crashers

A gorgeously decorated, summery marquee with plenty of room to dance – what more could you ask for? This wedding is one to take inspiration from if you’re from large families and want a wedding that’s beautiful in a simple, classic kind of way. Not to mention, the silky champagne hues of the bridesmaids’ dresses are a winner every time.

Forrest Gump

What’s more romantic than tying the knot in a place you both grew up loving? Obviously, this isn’t possible for all of us but if like Forrest and Jenny, you and your partner are childhood sweethearts, the idea of an intimate, DIY wedding in your garden could be just perfect. Add some flower garlands and a beautiful, blossoming archway to stand beneath and there you have it!

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1

So Twilight is associated with cringe-worthy lines and awkward vampire acting, but that vamp family sure know how to throw an occasion. We can’t deny that Bella and Edward’s is the dreamiest woodland wedding imaginable, so swallow your pride and stick on Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Just ignore the part where Bella has a nightmare about the wedding the night before…

13 Going On 30

This one’s a feel-good and endearing comedy about a 13-year-old wishing to be 30 and her wish then coming true. The quest to win the heart of her childhood best friend all those years later results in one of the most romantic reunions and a gorgeous wedding bursting with love and happiness. It’s bound to give you some food for thought.

The One With Phoebe’s Wedding

Okay, we know this isn’t strictly from a movie, but how could we not include this magical winter wedding? The Friends cast know how to do things right every time – even when it’s too snowy to get to the venue for the ceremony. This wedding is all about making the best of what you’ve got and choosing sentimental value over everything else. It’s classic Phoebe and we love it!
